Taste and See

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Have you? Have you tasted and seen that the Lord is good?

There are many people who believe the facts that Jesus lived, died and many even believe that He arose from the dead, but they have never made it personal.

Jesus tells us He is the bread of life  - John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

You might have a nice loaf of bread in your kitchen, but unless you actually eat the bread it will not do you any good. You can know it is there, you can look at it, you can believe it would feed you and fill that emptiness in your stomach and still starve to death. That physical bread will do you no good until you actually reach out, take it and eat it.

Spiritually it is the same. You might believe that Jesus was the Son of God, God in the flesh. You might believe that He lived a sinless life, believe that He was nailed to the cross, died, was buried and the third day bodily got up from the grave - alive, BUT until you reach out and accept that He did it all for YOU - it won't do you any good.

We are all sinners (Romans 3:23) and cannot do anything to save ourselves. Our sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Our sin has a penalty - death - eternal separation from God. (Romans 6:23a -"For the wages of sin is death" & that death is not just physical death but eternal spiritual death and separation from God in the torments of the lake of fire - Revelation 20:14-15, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.")

The good news is there is a way to get rid of our sin and be reconciled to God.  Reconcile means to make peace between us. That way is through Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the Second Person of the Godhead - He is God in the flesh. He came to this earth and took a body like ours so that He could take our punishment so we would not have to. Jesus died on the cross in our place- He suffered our death for us. He went through the pain, agony, torment,  thirst, and even the separation from God the Father that we should and would have had to suffer for eternity. He did all that on the cross for us. His blood was shed to wash away our sin.  On the  3rd day, Jesus got up from the grave in victory - Victory over sin, death, the grave, Hell and satan. His victory is ours if we will believe Him and trust Him as our Saviour.

Good works will not save us, they will not remove our sin - Neither will belonging to a church, taking communion, being baptized or any other religious work remove our sin, reconcile us to God and save us for eternity.  ONLY JESUS CHRIST can do that. His blood will cleanse all our sin (1 John 1:7) He lives forever and will intercede for us if we trust Him as our Saviour.

To be saved you must believe God and admit that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for YOU, and arose again from the dead and is alive and willing to save you. Reach out to Him in faith and believe Him - He will save you if you will let Him. You cannot do it yourself.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Won't you take of the Bread of Life? Bread in your kitchen will fill the emptiness in your stomach, but only the Bread of Life (Jesus Christ) can fill the emptiness in your heart. Won't you taste and see that the Lord is good?
